T Shirt Ink Wash experiment

After making my first Silkscreen T Shirt transfer I decided to see whether or not the Ink will wash out, I heard the best thing to do is to iron the back side of the transfer to bond the ink to the cotton and then wash it.

This is the T Shirt after I transfered my logo onto the top.
After ironing the top and washing it the Ink didnt comeoff :) and looked exactly the same as before i washed  it.Thus I am pleased that I can now start to make tops =]

This is my transfer design after being washed and dried and as you can see no detail has been removed at all. I really like this design its very simple and look awesome! I shall start wearing it to give my brand public awareness

Silkscreen Experiment

From my induction of how to Silk Screen I have become inspired to what applications I could use with this process. Im going to try an experiment with my Logo on different materials and colours to see what combinations I can create. Plus you can layer up images and this can distort or create a new image completely. This process can be applied onto T-shirts or I'm going to experiment and see what works and become good as silk screening before I use T-shirts.

Today I decided to experiment with my logo on different materials to see which looks good and what doesn't work.



This is my print onto cardboard, I used both black and white to vary to colours and because it was a jagged inside, the details show up on the print, this does give me a tacky effect that could go into my favor if its the desired affect i want.



Here I printed onto a blank CD and a CD Cover I think that this looks very well and rather funky, could be a actual product to sell, I want to try using different colours soon to see if I can have a variation.



I used a comic to give a different background to my image, I think that black wouldn't stand out so I used white and it could work if i cut around the elephant and have the comic peeping through the gaps. I need to consider a lot of the comic image behind the elephant though.



I tried my logo onto a Hanky to see if the ink worked well on clothe, as you can see it does so i felt confident into making a t-shirt.



Here I used a divider and I think they look good, I will experiment with different colours to give my dividers a variation for each one.



Here i used a paper bag and I think if I could get some blank paper bags i could use them if I ever do open up a shop.



This is my logo onto a T-shirt and it worked very well. I'm happy with the consistancy of the ink and the position, i need to test out whether it comes off when you wash it though.

Blog Display Picture/Logo

For my first project I think it is necessary that I create a Logo for my shop which I will then use for my Blog Display picture.

My initial idea was to get a elephant skull, so i looked up pictures of a skull to see if i could find any that I liked, however I found allot of pictures of the whole skeleton and decided that a skeleton would be better.

I knew that I wanted my logo to look something like this picture, so I drew up a rough design on paper.

After drawing this rough picture I realised a few things. one that I wasn't good at drawing a realistic skeleton, two that in drawing a realistic skeleton my shop could appeal too scary so I decided to draw a more cartoony skeleton therefore it would appeal to a bigger audience. I decided to draw this in the programme flash because it would be alot easier for me because I have used the programme in the past.

As i drew the skeleton in flash I decided to make it simple and I used shapes like circles and squares to make the bones, this will make my logo look more cute. I found that this design look alot of a manga/anime style creature which is very modern and has a lot of appeal but i felt is was incomplete. I noticed in the skeleton picture is has a outline of the animal and i decided to make one for my skeleton.

I researched for a good elephant pose to use and I liked this one.

I really like this pose because of its cuteness which suites my skeleton so i then drew a outline around the skeleton like so.

Finally I decided that this wasn't enough, to make the skeleton stand out I decided that the outline should be coloured in to create a shadow, and this wasn't the end result.

I really like my end project, It does everything that i want it to. its cute and has a manga style to it, yet it will appeal to the alternate nature as i intended. I really love the pose and how the skeleton jumps out of the shadow.

After doing this picture I have made a store logo that I might use if I ever open up a shop. I used both creepy looking blood style and a graffiti 'spray paint' style fonts to make a clash of the style of the shop. The blood is to represent that alternate/Gothic theme to my shop and the graffiti represents that my shop is modern. I decided to put two elephants in this picture because, when I put one elephant in the picture I felt it looked ab it empty so i put another elephant to fill the gap and the end result looks amazing :)

Officail Launch of Project: 'Elephant Graveyard'

As the group projects in my interactive arts course ending and the individual projects coming up, I am very excited and anxious to be doing my own projects.

For a while now I have made a new ambition for myself to eventually open up my own shop called elephant graveyard, thew contents to sell is still unknown but i do want it to be a 'artistic' shop of some sort. I came up with the name since I have a obsession with elephants because i find it very interested how elephants recognise and mourn their own dead. since discovering this fact I have a passion for these animals, and my respect for these gentle giants has increased tenfold. I knew i wanted my shop name to have an alternate appeal because I love shops such as Athleks Palace and when watching the Disney film Lion King they go to this dark creepy area called the elephant graveyard and I knew I had my shop name. Hence why my blog is called Elephant Graveyard, I want this blog to be the starting point into creating my shop.

Film Project

Today we were given the assignment to make a 'sweded' film, based on a chosen film title given to us. My group consisted of Myself, Hannah, Laura and Tom and we were given the film title 'Hairspray'. At first I was reluctant to do this film because I haven't seen the film and I don't think its any good. As since we haven't seen the original film and only the 2007, musical remake we diced to watch clips of the film on youtube, to gather some information on the film.
My team turned out to be rather enthusiastic which gave me a more positive feeling on this project.
As we splitting our roles in who would be playing which character's, we decided that I would play the mother character the in the films the mother is played by a male actor, this will prove to be a funny comedic factor on our behalf. And should prove to be allot of fun.
Hannah would play the main female role and tom would play the main male role, Laura is camera shy and therefore volunteered to be cameraman.
We decided instead of having wigs we would made cardboard wigs so that it would look more 'naff' and therefor more funny.

The Following day was the day of shooting. AS me and Hannah arrived the earliest we decided to get changed into costume whilst we wait for the others. Hannah costume worked successfully as it made her looking bigger then what she really is. As fore my costume wasn't that thought out and it made me look disproportionate, which it turn could have a positive effect on the audience to see how 'naff' i made myself look as a female.
We took it upon ourselves to come up with the key plot points in the film and decided to narrow them down into what we could made funny. since the film has to be two minutes long we thought that you couldn't fit all the diverse story of hairspray into that time slot.
We also encountered the problem of that we needed someone to play the character of Pepper, since we couldn't find any actors we decided to dress a manikin up and have somebody move it along. This proved to be amusing to see a headless manikin as a main character.
Another problem we came across was to make the corny Collins show, which needs allot of people in the shot. For this we decided to film paper dolls dancing around to music, because we didn't have the time or actors to get real people dancing. At the end we decided to get a heart mask transition shot and to so this we cut out of heart shape from paper and put the paper next the to camera lens and slowly move it backwards and the main characters kiss in the end.

When it came to editing we knew we only had 2 minutes in which our film could last to we thought that to try and make it as crazy and funny as possible. That we no one would care if the plot made sense or not. We were all keen to fit our labels paper people into the 'Corny Collins Song' which each member says their name, however this song is over 2 minutes long, so we made the decision that our whole film will have this song playing to it. And thus we based our film around the show since it is one of the biggest plot points in the film.

When it came to showing the film i was very nervous what would people think and of course seeing me dressed as a female, also i was confident because I thought our finished product was funny and enjoyable to watch. Whilst everyone watched it, they laughed most of the way through it with the fact that the T.V button fell off and the people were paper dolls and the audience laughed with me and not at me. Which i felt happy about. When the film finished everyone gave a big round of applause. After showing the film I learnt that i should be proud of my achievements and not to be so nervous about presenting my work. Especially after the past few projects where people have enjoyed seeing my group projects

Party Project

For our party project my group was dedicated to produce a stag/hen do themed party.
So we ecided for our backdrop we would do a old fashioned theme based on the tradition of olden weddings that were held outside instead of in a church and also going back to the origins of the stag do. To do this we had alot of leaves and twigs, and leaves scattered around our area.

To contrast with this we all dressed up with modern themes and each displayed the different aspects of the hen/stag do.
WE dressed up as chatacters such as a drunken male, a pimp, a dancer, a female parier, a vicar.
The end product of a clash contrast with modern and old fashions themes witch mixed very nicely, was the backdrop was very calm and we were bold and flashy. which again refers to old fashioned and modernism.

Summer Project

For my summer project, I decieded to incorperate my passion for drawing caricatures. By having a card game where the players could draw caricatures of the other players onto the cards and thus play a game with them. The aim of the game is to collect the cards with caricatures of you on them, by swapping cards with other players on at a time.

I didnt have much time to do this project since I found out about the project only a week before the course, so i wasnt that keen on playing my game. But my group liked my game and it turned to be a fun game to play and was a good laugh to see drawings of other people.
Overall i felt my game was a success given the little time and resources it took me to make it.
